Dr. Loftus grew up just a few miles from where he practices in Bellaire today. After he graduated from Rice University he became a Chemical Engineer and worked in that field for a couple years. Then Dr. Loftus decided he would attend medical school. Because of his engineering background, he was drawn to Neurology. He developed migraines during his residency and this resulted in a life long commitment to headache medicine.
He was hired to be the "Botox guy" in his first job after residency. Dr. Loftus always believes patients should be educated about what is going on with their health. He felt the internet could be a good source for them to find information. Back in 1994 his colleagues had a very different view of putting health information on the internet. Trying to convince his colleagues to write more and put information on the internet, he came upon a Botox treatment for hyperhidrosis. He wrote an article and put that on the clinic website in 1996 and patients started to show up and request therapy. One of his patients cried tears of joy after her treatment success. Dr. Loftus continues providing hyperhidrosis treatment to this day.
Treatment And Prevention Of Headache Disease.
Studies show only a small percentage of patients who should receive headache prevention are actually getting it. In addition, many patients are waiting too long to treat mild headaches before developing more severe headaches. Dr. Loftus attacks headache treatment by working to prevent as many as possible while increasing early treatment of headaches when they occur.
Headache Care Is a Top Priority for our Office and Team.
Dr. Loftus is the only Houston area headache medicine boarded specialist that offers same-day infusion services and headache rescue procedures available right in their office. When our patients are having a bad headache and are thinking of going to an ER, then we tell to them to just come into the office for treatment. They will be seen faster, it will be less expensive and many times ERs follow a standard protocol used for pain management and don't give something specifically to treat migraine headaches.
Patients are encouraged to use the portal to send questions directly to Dr. Loftus between appointments. The expected response time is one business day. Excellent two-way communication is essential to exceptional care.
