Hairline, around the breasts, and groin are other areas of hyperhidrosis that patients sometimes need treated

Less common areas treated for hyperhidrosis

Excessive sweating locations vary in location.  While underarms  and palms are most common, around the hair line on the face and neck, around the breasts, and the groin area have all been treated by Dr. Loftus.  When the groin area is involved, it is also known at Hexsel’s hyperhidrosis.

The sweating around the face and neck typically comes from a thin strip of skin that is at the end of the hair line.  For this reason, drysol cannot be easily used.  The inguinal area (bikini area) is another area where drysol cannot be easily used.  Between and under the breasts is another area where drysol can be very useful.

Botulinum Treatment of Hyperhidrosis

Botulinum toxin treatment of hyperhidrosis is truly life changing for many hyperhidrosis patients.  Dr. Loftus has been using this treatment for over 20 years.  Starting therapy is typically 2.5 units of Botox brand botulinum toxin every 2 cm-squared of area.  Most insurances will not cover this use of Botox® but when they will, Dr. Loftus will use the patient’s specialty pharmacy to lower the patient’s cost.  While Dr. Loftus’ fee are out of network to apply the Botox, the majority of the cost of the procedure is for the Botox injections themselves.  Higher doses clearly work better and longer but it is not clear they are more cost effective than lower doses.  At your initial patient visit, Dr. Loftus will measure the area needed to be treated in order to give you an approximate dose.  If needed before making a new patient visit, Dr. Loftus can give you a range of pricing based upon dose and the office can tell you if there is a possibility that your area will be covered by insurance.

Botulinum toxin requires binding to Zinc in order to function.  Dr. Soparker and associates demonstrated that the use of Zytaze (a combination of Zinc and phytase) resulted in extending the benefit of botulinum toxin (at least Botox brand for blepharospasm and forehead wrinkles). Given the low cost, Dr. Loftus recommends all of his patients use Zytaze when using botox for hyperhidrosis.
